Goods being packed to go to Elsa in Los Palos, Timor Leste

A great packing day was held in November. We had been told a container was going to Timor Leste in the next couple of weeks, however on Wednesday 9th November we were told that goods, to be included in this container, had to be at the wharf by 2-30 pm the next day. So with a bit of a last minute rush we managed to put together four large boxes that contained 80 birthing kits, fabric, sissors, cottons, kindergarten items and whatever else we could fit into any spaces. Off they went by 9-30am, well in time to be included. Elsa and Deb are looking forward to travelling to Dili to collect the boxes.

Elsa, as Co-ordinator for the Cooperative for Tais, Culture and Sustainable Development, has provided an update on their activities and plans for the coming months. The Cooperative is working towards local womens financial independence, one aspect of this is to develop a range of goods, based on their weaving, that they will be able to make and sell. Deb is providing support as a development officer. (They are pictured with the Victorian contingent to the ACWW South Pacific Conference in Tonga in September)
Assistance can be provided through the provision of equipment and sewing goods.
Sewing machines & overlockers needed - ideally they should have a 'walking' foot, need to be able to manage several layers of fairly heavy fabric.
Material - Cotton in colours of black, brown, burgundy in lengths of several metres.
Cottons - for overlockers and sewing machines in the above colours
The many and varied sewing implements.
