Community Support - Local

August 2012: Wonderful to report that the first batch of the Children's Gift Packs for Corrections Victoria have been sent off. Many thanks to the various branches who particpated and who continue to do so. Items continue to arrive, ready for when we need the next lot.
With the Maternal and Child Health Nurses in the Bass Coast area we have trialled a project - giving a gift of matching set of beanie/bootties or a knitted teddie to all newborns. Feedback indicates that this has been well received. Mildura Group looking to commence in their area, initial investigations commenced in Melton area and inquiry from Warragul area. With some 72,500 children born in Victoria last year we really need the knitters to get very busy.

Newborn Gifts
May 2012: the winter type goods are now being sent out to where needed. Knitted tedies are always in demand, as are baby rugs and knee rugs for adults.
The CWA of Victoria Inc & Corrections Victoria Children's Gift packs are now needed. If you or your branch would like to participate in this project please contact me. We will need about 40 packs per year for ages: 1. newborn to one year 2. two years to three years and 3. four years to five years of age. The contents are very specific, however not expensive or onerous to supply.

January, 2012 Happy New Year to all. Late last year the packing team work diligently to pack all the winter goods into boxes ready to dispatch as soon as the cooler weather starts.
There are several projects that branches might be interested in taking on as a small ongoing project. Many of these are around supporting children. Write to the Office if your branch is interested.
Always need
Knitted teddies - no buttons etc that a child might chew off please.
Knee rugs for oncology units

October 2011  Currently we have lots and lots of soap - about 10 very large boxes of it, however babies items are in very short supply.
With summer approaching, and the history of the disasters of the past 3 or so years, not to mention the drought that preceded that, we are boxing up emergency goods ready to be sent out should they be required. We have in stock most of the needed items except the baby/toddler items, lip balms and sunscreen. Baby summer clothing would also assist.

September, 2011

On return from the ACWW South Pacific Area Conference in Tonga I went to Aladdin's Shed and lo and behold, it was packed to the rafters. Members had been very busy making deliveries while we were away, then State Council followed with many more boxes and bags being delivered.

Packing day last week was very busy. We completed packing the 100 toiletry packs for the Indigenous Prison Programme. Over the next few weeks we will have discussions about what can be provided for children who are in the prison system with a parent.

Several boxes of goods, including babies and childrens knitwear and clothing, toiletries, nappies, linen and blankets were sent off to Caroline Chisholm.

Trauma dolls, knitted teddies, premature baby sets and rugs where sent off to a variety of places including Southern Health. Soft to touch knitted hats went to several oncology centres.

I have commenced buying packing boxes, this is so that we have uniformity and will increase the
ease of packing for members packing.
